Home Page for Greg Kelly Songs

A little bit about me.

I’ve lived and worked in Ottawa all my life. I grew up in one of the areas set aside for Veterans of the Second World War and their families.

For some reason or other, I’ve always had a song in my head. I remember being very young, and making up songs and singing them to myself. I also wrote short stories for my own amusement.Greg with guitar

I started writing songs around 1971. I was influenced by Kris Kristofferson, John Prine, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles of course, but mostly by country/folk artists.

I was a member of a group with 14 singers and a nine piece band called Maple Ridge in the very early ‘70’s. We toured around Ontario performing songs by Lighthouse and Chicago, and mostly an original Rock Oratorio on the life of Louis Riel.

After leaving Maple Ridge, I began writing songs in earnest, but I didn’t perform, so no one got the opportunity to hear me.

Finally, in early 2007, I decided that it was time to do something. It was time to make a recording of my songs that spanned from 1975 to 2007.
The result is “Broken Windows”, a recording of which I’m extremely proud.

I hope you enjoy the songs that I’ve included. I intend to record more of my songs from the past as well as songs that are new.

I also intend to perform more. I hope to see you out there.
